 Soprano Heather Phillips, 24, is a native of North Canton, Ohio. Miss Phillips holds both a Master's and a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Performance from the University of Cincinnati, College-Conservatory of Music (CCM). In addition to her education and training at CCM, Miss Phillips has gained performance experience as a Young Artist with the Cincinnati Opera, Opera Theatre and Music Festival of Lucca Italy, Brevard Music Festival, Bay View Music Festival and is currently  a studio artist with Kentucky Opera for their 2008-2009 season.
   With Kentucky Opera, Miss Phillips will be singing the roles of Edith in The Pirates of Penzance, Grisostomo in Don Quichotte, Brigitta in Iolanta, two student matinee performances of Mabel in The Pirates of Penzance and will be covering the role of Sophie in Werther. In April of 2009 Miss Phillips will sing the role of Kate Pinkerton in a production of Madama Butterfly with the Canton Symphony Orchestra in Canton, Ohio. In the Summer of 2009 Miss Phillips will return to the Cincinnati Opera to sing Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro. Her experience on the opera stage includes the roles of Susanna/Il Segreto di Susanna with the Opera Theatre of Lucca, Italy, Asphodele/L'etoile with Cincinnati Opera, Belinda/Dido and Aeneas with the Brevard Music Festival, and at CCM the roles of Clori/L'egisto, Gretel/Hansel and Gretel and Betty in the Mid-West Premiere of Lowell Libermann's Miss Lonelyhearts.
    Highlights as a soloist on the concert stage include Haydn's Lord Nelson Mass, Vivaldi's Gloria, Schubert's Der Hirt auf dem Felsen with the Grandin Music Festival (coached by Warren Jones), performances with the Brevard Music Center Orchestra, featured soloist at Northern-Kentucky University's "Music on the Edge" series, premiering contemporary music and featured soloist with the McDowell Music Club of Canton, Ohio.
    Miss Phillips recently garnered the 1st place prize in the 2009 National Opera Association-Vocal Competition, held in Washington D.C. She is also recently the recipient of a career grant from the Anna Sosenko Assist Trust awards for 2009. In January of 2008 Miss Phillips received the encouragement award at the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions in Cincinnati, OH (Southern-Ohio district). She is the recipient the CCM Mercer Travel Grant for International study in Italy, was a finalist and encouragement award winner in the 2007 Palm Beach Opera Scholarship competition, finalist in the 2006 Dayton Opera Guild Scholarship competition, 1st place winner in the CCM Gorno/Powell voice competition, and 1st place winner in the Ohio Federation of Music Club Scholarship competition. She has also received awards from the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
    Her performance experience includes the fields of opera, oratorio, art song, concert repertoire, musical theatre, jazz and contemporary music. Miss Phillips is currently a voice student of William McGraw.
