Pagliacci

Pagliacci (Players, or Clowns) is an opera consisting of a prologue and two acts written and composed by Ruggero Leoncavallo. It recounts the tragedy of a jealous husband in a commedia dell'arte troupe.

Tosca

Tosca

Tosca (1900) was arguably Puccini's first foray into verismo, the realistic depiction of many facets of real life including violence. The opera is generally considered of major importance in the history of opera because of its many significant features.

Armida Imaginaria

Armida Imaginaria

This Opera has never been produced in the U.S.A. although it is a first rate comic piece. The main character can be thought of as female counterpart to Don Quixote in that she has similar delusions, specifically, that in her Garden she can preside as Armida, a major romantic character of Tasso. Many...

Schubert - Individual Lieder

This should be an expanding album. A bit could be written about every one of Schubert's 800 songs. For now let us just note that "Die Forelle" is the basis of the great "Trout Quintet". The singable English translation by R.E.C. is a deveiation from the norm Artsconverge pres...

Extract from album : Schumann and H.Heine cycle tightly bind poetry with music.
Description :
Dichterliebe, 'The Poet's Love' (composed 1840), is the best-known song cycle of Robert Schumann (Op. 48). The texts for the 16 songs come from the Lyrisches Intermezzo of Heinrich Heine, composed 1822-1823, published as part of the poet's Das Buch der Lieder. Following the song-cycles of Franz Schubert (Die Schöne Müllerin and Winterreise), those of Schumann constitute part of the central core ...

Extract from album : Represents first half 20th Century German masters.
Description :
This Album is for 20th Century German Lieder, athough some late 19th century songs by composer who lived over the turn of the century can appear. Gustav Mahler and Richard Strauss were the most important post Wagnerian German composers who wrote robust scores without apparent reservations about not reaching the height of that mighty peak, as atonalists such as Alben Berg (1885-1935) seem t ...

This should be an expanding album. A bit could be written about every one of Schubert's 800 songs. For now let us just note that "Die Forelle" is the basis of the great "Trout Quintet". The singable English translation by R.E.C. is a deveiation from the norm Artsconverge presentation which is more focused on emphasizing the meaning of the original. Details
(3486 hits)
Category:  German Lieder  Art Songs
Label : RCA Victor
Extract from album : Most important work of Wagner not an Opera
Description :
- Note - Piano Performances of the Wesendonck Cycle do not do justice to theses works. Wagner always heard Orchestra when he composed. The Felix Mottl orchestration (referencing on Tristan und Isolde) convincingly realizes Wagner's inner creation. Conceptually, it is more likely that the Prelude to Act III or Tristan was the source for Im Treibhaus rather than the reverse as stated above ...

Description :
Winterreise (Winter Journey) is a cycle of 24 poems by Wilhelm Müller 1794-1827, best known as the song cycle set for male voice and piano by Franz Schubert (op. 89, published 1827). It is the second of Schubert's two great song cycles on Müller's poems, the earlier being Die Schöne Müllerin - The Fair Miller-Maid (1823). Both were originally written for tenor voice but are frequently transpos ...
