Pagliacci (Players, or Clowns) is an opera consisting of a prologue and two acts written and composed by Ruggero Leoncavallo. It recounts the tragedy of a jealous husband in a commedia dell'arte troupe.
|This Opera has never been produced in the U.S.A. although it is a first rate comic piece. The main character can be thought of as female counterpart to Don Quixote in that she has similar delusions, specifically, that in her Garden she can preside as Armida, a major romantic character of Tasso. Many great painters chose to do versions of Armida and Rinaldo from Tasso, which gives us the opportunity to show images of their works here.|
